One of the most recent achievements of Speranta (Hope) Local Development Foundation is the Center of Integration and Occupational Therapy (C.I.O.T.), for disabled people from Tg. Neamt town, the first and the only center of this kind from Neamt County.
How did the project come to life?
At the beginning, it was the desire to give a helping hand to the less fortunate people â¦. to help the disabled persons coming from families, placement centers or special schools, that did not have any alternative to the specialized social services on community level
Then it was the support and the trust offered by our partners from Holland gathered in âTeam Workâ Foundation. Even since 2001, our foundation was selected together with other 4 organizations from the country (Medias, Tirgu Mures, Zalau, Simeria) to take part in a pilot program in Romania intended to promote the right to work of the disabled people.
Then, in 2003, we had the support of the local authorities that offered us to use free of charge a P+1 building in order to set up a service center for disabled people; but the building needed expensive reinforcement and rehabilitation works. In 2004 and 2005, we obtained the first two financing of the projects submitted by our organization to several institutions/authorities. The National Authority for Disabled People was the one that financed (in proportion of approximately 90%) together with ALESCON, a Dutch company, Drenthe Supports Disabled Foundation from Tirgu Neamt and Tirgu Neamt Town Hall, the rehabilitation and arrangement works and the bringing into service of the building intended to serve as the center.
At the end of 2005, a financing from the European Union through Phare program 2003 âConsolidation of the Civil Society in Romaniaâ was approved to our organization, a new project that completed in the best way the previous ones, ensuring the financing of the rest of works that had to be executed and the equipments that were necessary so as the Center of Integration and Occupational Therapy for Disabled People from Tg Neamt, in short C.I.O.T., functioned at the quality standards required by the legislation in force.
That was how the Center of Integration and Occupational Therapy for Disabled People from Tg Neamt, the only one of that kind from the county, came to life and actually offered support for the socio-professional integration of the disabled people.
